The Ideal Boss is a Non-Boss

Fred Gratzon – The Lazy Way to Success – schildert, wie er als Nicht-Chef agiert:

Occasionally people ask me how I reconcile my not wanting to do any work with my expecting employees to do their jobs. It seems like a contradiction.

I point out that I hate work and I avoid it completely. I also point out that I hate to be bossed and I can’t imagine anyone else who likes it either. So basically I do unto others as I would have them do unto me. I don’t want to be bossed so I don’t boss others. I don’t like to work so I don’t require anyone to do it either. It is as simple as that.

People then ask how I get employees to do things.

I explain that I do it by turning the work into play. I make the job fun. I make it irresistibly exciting. I make it seductively challenging. I show how their part fits into and advances the whole. My employees then happily motivate themselves and don’t need to be bossed.

It works like magic – for them and me.

The ideal boss is a boss who respects employees as adult and reasonable human beings – and interacts accordingly.
